METRO is committed to ensuring every rider feels safe, comfortable, and welcome throughout our transit system. As part of that commitment, METRO is collaborating with regional law enforcement partners to enhance visibility, response times, and overall safety across all rail lines and transit facilities.
This initiative, which launched Wednesday, Nov. 12, began with increased officer presence along the Red Line and has expanded this week to the Green and Purple Lines. METRO will be extending this enhanced safety effort across the entire system in the near future, with rail serving as the starting point.
The initiative brings together METRO Police officers and partner agencies working side by side to support the increase in ridership.
To enhance safety along the corridor, METRO is coordinating with the following agencies:
- Houston Police Department
- Harris County Sheriff’s Office
- Harris County Constable’s Office, Precinct 1
- Harris County Constable’s Office, Precinct 6
- Harris County Constable’s Office, Precinct 7
Riders may notice additional uniformed officers on trains, platforms, buses and at transit centers during peak hours. All assisting officers will be working in coordination with METRO Police Department personnel.
“Our number one priority has always been the safety of our riders, operators, and staff,” said METRO Police Chief Ban Tien. “This collaborative effort strengthens our presence across the system and helps ensure that when our community chooses METRO, they feel supported, protected, and welcomed.”
Serving a region of more than 1,300 square miles, METRO relies on strong partnerships and coordinated patrol strategies to maintain a safe, reliable, and accessible transit environment. As ridership continues to grow, METRO remains focused on building a system where customers not only are safe—but feel safe—every step of the way.
