Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) Chair Pasquale Deon Sr. and General Manager Leslie Richards wear Astros jerseys after losing World Series wager with METRO.
The Houston Astros' World Series win against the Philadelphia Phillies on Nov. 5, 2022, was also a win for METRO. Before the start of the MLB championship, METRO and Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) leaders staked a friendly wager over whose team would bring home the coveted Commissioner's Trophy. Today, SEPTA leaders made good on their bet with METRO.
At SEPTA's board meeting, Chair Pasquale Deon Sr. and General Manager & CEO Leslie Richards donned Astros jerseys provided by METRO. The Authority also included Texas pecan candy baskets. But the sweet treat didn't make the loss any easier to swallow for our friends in Philly.

"Please understand how painful this is to me, but a bet is a bet. It would have been sweeter being on the other side of this bet, but here we are," said Richards. "I've always been a Phillies fan and after a couple of tough years with COVID, I'm really proud of how they got this city excited again."
METRO President & CEO Tom Lambert thanked SEPTA for being good sports, adding that the real winners are the nation's transit workers who ensure people can get to essential destinations every day.
"I want to thank our friends at SEPTA for a very fun bit of wagering during the World Series. We look forward to doing it again."
