METRO Board Chair Carrin Patman riding METRO.
At METRO, every day is Transit Equity Day, and we are dedicated to improving public transit by connecting communities, improving accessibility and, especially during this pandemic, providing essential trips.
But Friday, Feb. 4 marks Transit Equity Day in honor of civil rights icon Rosa Parks, and this past week METRO Board members and senior staff snapped pictures while riding the system to highlight the importance of transit. Chair Carrin Patman rode METRORail and the 44 Acres Homes bus route.
“I rode the 44 in honor of Mayor Turner, who rode that route every day to attend college, and who has been a champion for equity for all Houstonians,” said Patman.
Above: Board members Sanjay Ramabhadran and Lex Frieden riding METRO. Below: METRO President & CEO Tom Lambert rides METRO.
Each year, transit organizations across the nation recognize Transit Equity Day on Rosa Parks' birthday. The national day of action recognizes her act of defiance, strength, and dignity while promoting access to and investment in public transportation as a civil right and strategy to combat climate change.
