As the Houston region recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, METRO service planners are closely monitoring ridership to ensure supply meets demand. On Sunday, June 6, 2021, a series of METRO route and schedule modifications will take effect on various METRO local bus, Park & Ride and METRORapid routes.
METRO customers will find more frequent service along several local and Park & Ride routes. Morning and afternoon service has also been added during rush hour to METRO's 418 Harris County Jury shuttle to accommodate employees returning to offices downtown.
Rising vaccination numbers and lower COVID-19 positivity rates mean more residents can safely return to pre-pandemic activities. METRO is no longer encouraging only essential trips and — following new CDC guidance — has removed seating capacity limits on METRO vehicles.
Passenger safety remains a priority. Frequent cleaning and sanitation will continue at METRO facilities and on all METRO vehicles, and the Authority will continue to provide hand sanitizing stations. Customers are also encouraged to purchase contactless fares and plan their trips using the RideMETRO app. METRO continues to abide by the federal mask requirement for anyone riding the system or entering any METRO facility as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration.
METRO representatives are ready to assist customers with any questions. To speak with a representative, call 713-635-4000 between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Updates are also available on METRO's Twitter and Facebook pages. METRO's next service change is scheduled for August 2021. Stay informed by signing up for METRO mobile service alerts.
