METRORapid Service Begins Sunday

The METRORapid Silver Line will carry customers beginning Sunday, Aug. 23. A virtual ribbon cutting marked the launch of the first-of-its kind transit option for the region. Click here to view.
The Uptown Houston District led construction of the project along Post Oak Boulevard and METRO will operate the service. The other project partners include the Texas Department of Transportation, the city of Houston and the Houston-Galveston Area Council.
 From boarding at elevated platforms similar to rail to cruising past traffic in dedicated, bus-only lanes, riders will notice a smooth, rail-like experience.The five-mile METRORapid route is the region's official introduction to bus rapid transit technology.
METRORapid vehicles feature a modern design which offers 100% accessibility with wider doorways and level boarding.
The Route
The Silver Line connects the Northwest Transit Center, north of Interstate 10, to the new Westpark/ Lower Uptown Transit Center. In all, there are 10 stops along the route.
With service that runs every 10 minutes during the day, the Silver Line is ideal for riders who live, work and shop in the Uptown area or for those who want a convenient connection to the rest of METRO's transit network. The hours of operation are 5 a.m. to midnight, seven days per week.
METRORapid Fare
The cost to ride METRORapid is $1.25 per ride. Customers can pay the fare in one of three simple ways.
1. A Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) located on a platform
2. A valid fare card
3. Visit the Get Your Fare section under the RideMETRO App
Fare discounts for students, seniors, the disabled and veterans still apply.

More to Come
The METRORapid Silver Line is the first of several planned METRORapid routes. The voter approved METRONext Moving Forward Plan calls for 75 miles of METRORapid service including a direct connection from downtown Houston to George Bush Intercontinental Airport as well as one along the Inner Katy Freeway Corridor.
COVID-19 Safety Reminders
- METRO requires all riders, employees, contractors and visitors wear a face covering unless impracticable due to a medical condition.
- Seating capacity is currently reduced to encourage social distancing.
- Riders have access to hand sanitizer while on board.

- All METRO vehicles are cleaned and disinfected frequently.
- METRO encourages riders to use transit services for essential trips only.
