This weekend, about 2000 families will get a special delivery, courtesy of the city of Houston's Food Access Program. The free grocery delivery program, led by the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, has already helped more than 700 families as we fight COVID-19.
Donations to the Houston Food Bank made the deliveries possible. Then, METROLift employees, First Transit and Yellow Cab contractors joined forces to do everything from scheduling to loading boxes of groceries onto METROLift vehicles and Yellow Cab minivans.
Families receive shelf-stable goods and fresh produce as well as some basic home necessities. Anyone interested in signing up, or learning more about the program can call 832-394-0814 or go to the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities website.
Houston Rockets and Fertitta Family Donate Lunch for Bus Operators
The Houston Rockets and the Fertitta family took an opportunity to show appreciation for some METRO bus operators serving on the front lines. The organizations provided lunch to operators at the Texas Medical Center Transit Center for “Taco Tuesday” by bringing The Cadillac Bar “Taco Me Crazy” food truck to the site.
