Major Makeover for METRO's Northwest Transit Center
Construction and Closures to Impact Commuters
METRO will begin construction Monday, June 10 on the Northwest Transit Center, which will connect to the new Uptown Bus Rapid Transit project. Patrons will see more bus bays, bus shelter canopies, and parking, all designed to improve the customer experience.
There are several construction phases that will affect METRO bus riders and HOV/HOT Lane users.
Beginning Monday, June 10, 2019, contractors will start construction work, which will eliminate parking access inside the transit center.
Drivers will be able to use METRO’s secondary parking lot highlighted in blue on the map, located across from the transit center on Old Katy Road.
- Shuttles to and from the transit center will be available during weekday peak hours: 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m.
- There will also be a designated pedestrian path.
Beginning Monday, June 24, 2019, access to and from the US-290 HOV/HOT Lane ramps will be temporarily closed. Ramps are highlighted in red on map above.
The detours are as follows:
- Morning US-290 travelers exit Old Katy Road and follow signs to Uptown or I-10 East toward downtown.
- Evening I-10 (Katy Freeway) westbound travelers have two options to access US-290 HOV/HOT Lanes:
- Exit Silber/North Post Oak Road and follow signs.
- Exit Washington Avenue and follow signs to Old Katy Road.
We urge riders and HOV/HOT Lane users to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel while we renovate the Northwest Transit Center. We also offer real-time information on specific bus routes through text or email. To sign up click here: Email or Text Alerts
