Students! Enjoy Free Rides on METRO This Summer
METRO Connections Newsletter • April 2019
In just a few short weeks school will be out for the summer and you know what means. Students can enjoy free rides on METRO all summer long.
That's right. Our Summer of Fun program is back. Students from kindergarten through college can ride free on all METRO light-rail, local bus, and Park & Ride services starting June 1 through Aug. 31, 2019.
Free transit means area students can experience more mobility, big savings and less stress. Take a ride to the Houston Zoo located in the city's renowned Museum District. Head downtown and see a weekend show at the new Kinder High School for Performing and Visual Arts, or just grab a ride to your summer job. Your options are limitless.
Riders with a student fare card will automatically qualify for the Summer of Fun program. There's no need to register. Just use your card as you normally would. You won't be charged. For students who do not have a student fare card, there are several ways to apply. Here's how:
- Apply online at RideMETRO.org.
- Apply by mail by calling 713-635-4000 to request a form.
- Apply in person at METRO RideStores, 1900 Main Street or 1001 Travis Street (open weekdays from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.)
Please note that applicants must provide a current student ID, report card, or class schedule to qualify.
After Sept. 1, 2019, fare cards will automatically convert back to a discounted METRO Student Q® Fare card, coded with a 50 percent student discount. When reloading your card with money, you will automatically get half off the full fare. That means more savings for you!
