Mayor Issues Emergency Advisory Notice for the City of Laredo Due to Hurricane Beryl
Laredo, Texas — In preparation for severe weather conditions expected by Hurricane Beryl, Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño has issued an Emergency Advisory Notice for the City of Laredo. As of Friday, July 5th, the Emergency Operation Center continues to prepare ahead of possible weather conditions that Laredo may experience. The National Weather Service (NWS) is in communication with all government entities on Beryl’s path or trajectory, including stakeholders who are expected to collaborate with the emergency plan.
The City of Laredo closely monitors the weather and has activated all necessary protocols among all relevant agencies. The National Hurricane Center has shared that Hurricane Beryl has been shifting northward toward Texas, with the possible path to our area as either a tropical storm or a hurricane category once again.
“Currently, the advisory is to keep the residents under a heightened level of awareness of the potential devastation that can be caused by Hurricane Beryl. The preservation of life is a priority, and the City of Laredo and its Emergency Operations Center are preparing the residents for the potential of a Category 2 hurricane making landfall late Sunday evening. The current emergency advisory notice is in effect from Friday, July 5, 2024, at 12:00 noon until Tuesday, July 9, 2024. The notice calls for all residents to remain home and indoors in the event that the storm system arrives in our region. Additionally, all residents should seek official weather updates from reliable sources such as the City of Laredo and local news outlets.
Furthermore, the City will offer a sandbag distribution for residents to prepare for flooding. The distribution will take place on Saturday, July 6, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Joe A. Guerra Laredo Public Library parking lot, 1120 E. Calton Rd. The community is asked to collect the sandbags only if they have not received them already so that other constituents can receive them.
