January is National Radon Action Month

What do the film industry and January 2025 National Radon Action Month have in common?

While radon is primarily known as a radioactive gas, it has an interesting connection to the film industry through a popular kaiju (giant monster) character named Rodan. In Japan, "Radon" (ラドン) was the original name of this fictional creature, born from radioactivity, which first appeared in movies in 1956.

In real life, radon poses a silent but significant threat to workers across various industries. For January's National Radon Action Month, here are key resources to help protect against this invisible danger:

Key steps to take:

  • Test workplaces for radon, especially in high-risk areas.
  • Take action if radon levels exceed 4 picocuries per liter (pCi/L).
  • Implement proper ventilation and mitigation systems when necessary.

Do not let radon be the unseen villain in your workplace!
