More than 260 workers in the United States have lost their lives in trench collapses over the last decade. Texas alone has seen nearly 20 of these tragic deaths. Construction workers and their employers can help prevent these fatalities by following these tips to ensure trench safety.

Drowsy Driving Prevention Week is November 3-9, 2024

The National Sleep Foundation holds Drowsy Driving Prevention Week each year the week after the end of Daylight-Saving Time.

In Texas, driving while fatigued or sleepy caused over 8,000 crashes in 2023, and 103 of those were fatal. Make sure your employees drive safely. DWC has many resources available:


Free OSHA 10-hour construction classes

Free OSHA 10-hour construction classes

DWC offers in-person training and online video training in English and Spanish. Those who complete the course receive an OSHA 10-hour construction course completion card within eight weeks. 

  • You must be a Texas resident or an employee currently working in Texas to register.
  • The student must understand and communicate in the language of the course.
  • All classes start at 8 a.m. and run for two days.

Texas Nonfatal Occupational Injuries and Illnesses

Each year, DWC collects and publishes data on fatal and nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses in Texas in cooperation with the Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII) data reports and tables can be found at www.tdi.texas.gov/wc/safety/sis/nonfatalhomepag.html.

Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) data reports and tables can be found at www.tdi.texas.gov/wc/safety/sis/fathomepage.html.
