Commercial diving safety

In 2022, four scuba divers became trapped and died working in an offshore pipeline. Between 2019 to 2021, 17 divers using surface-supplied air sustained fatal injuries, with five of these deaths occurring at power generation plants. These are harsh reminders of the hazards of commercial diving. However, these tips, along with regular training can reduce the risks in this dangerous occupation and save lives.

OSHA, along with groups like the National Grain and Feed Association, is hosting the Stand Up for Grain Safety Week to raise awareness of the dangers in grain handling.

They offer a variety of resources, including printable safety posters in English and Spanish.

These safety tips can help prevent granary injuries and deaths. DWC Workplace Safety also offers links to free online safety videos for grain handling safety, as well as the following free downloadable safety publications:


Free OSHA 10-hour construction classes

Free OSHA 10-hour construction classes

DWC offers in-person training and online video training in both English and Spanish. Those who complete the course receive an OSHA 10-hour construction course completion card within eight weeks. 

  • You must be a Texas resident or an employee currently working in Texas to register.
  • The student must understand and communicate in the language of the course.
  • All classes start at 8 a.m. and run for two days.

Texas Nonfatal Occupational Injuries and Illnesses

Each year, DWC collects and publishes data on fatal and nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses in Texas in cooperation with the Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII) data reports and tables can be found at www.tdi.texas.gov/wc/safety/sis/nonfatalhomepag.html.

Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) data reports and tables can be found at www.tdi.texas.gov/wc/safety/sis/fathomepage.html.
