 National Electrical Safety Month
Springtime can bring heavy rains and flooding. However, water and electricity do not mix! Each May, the Electrical Safety Foundation International sponsors National Electrical Safety Month to educate employers and others on steps to reduce electrical fires, property loss, injuries, and death. These life-saving electrical safety tips can help prevent workplace accidents caused by water-damaged electrical equipment following a natural disaster.
 Prepare for Hurricane Season
The 2021 Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1. Here are some resources to help you prepare your workplace:
- The National Weather Service offers hurricane preparedness tips and resources in both English and Spanish.
- OSHA’s Hurricane Preparedness and Response page outlines the warnings and watches used for hurricanes, as well as information on creating evacuation plans and supply kits.
- OSHA’s Hurricane e-Matrix tool helps employers make risk assessments to protect workers in hurricane-impacted areas.
- OSHA's Disaster Site Worker Outreach Training Program is a training program for workers who provide skilled support services such as utility repair, demolition, debris removal, or heavy equipment operation.
- DWC offers the following natural disaster preparedness and recovery publications:
- The Texas Hurricane Center also provides guidance for before, during, and after a storm.
 Low Cost Online OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Class
The OSHA 10-Hour class offers live instruction through Microsoft Teams.
This class covers OSHA general industry standards and requirements and safety awareness to help employees find and reduce job site hazards.
Participants receive an OSHA 10-Hour General Industry card within eight weeks after course completion.
