The Texas Department of Insurance will now issue windstorm certificates of compliance for completed construction, in addition to certificates for ongoing construction.
Windstorm certificates of compliance, also known as WPI-8s, are needed for coastal properties to be eligible for coverage from the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA). They certify that the structure meets adopted building codes and can withstand high winds and hail.
Before this change, certificates for completed construction had been issued by TWIA since 2017.
