THECB retains Clearinghouse’s Student Tracker Premium data services

Sept. 22, 2020, Austin, Texas – As part of an ongoing commitment to provide increasingly useful and actionable information and insight, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board announced today that the agency has retained Student Tracker Premium data services from the National Student Clearinghouse (Clearinghouse) for summer 2020 through summer 2022.

“As an enhancement to the Coordinating Board’s rich existing state data resources, I am pleased that the Clearinghouse’s student-level data and tools will enable our Texas institutions and agencies to better analyze and understand the student educational pipeline,” said Commissioner of Texas Higher Education Harrison Keller. “I want to thank the Texas Legislature for appropriating funds to enable the Coordinating Board to retain the Clearinghouse’s Student Tracker Premium data services and enhance resources for Texas institutions to access actionable, real-time data to better monitor student persistence and graduation rates. This data is especially valuable now, to help us understand and mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 public health crisis on students’ progress toward achieving high-value postsecondary credentials.”

The Clearinghouse’s Student Tracker Premium data will enable the Coordinating Board and higher education institutions to better inform Texas students and their families about educational and career opportunities.

“The National Student Clearinghouse’s work with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board will support higher education throughout the state of Texas with useful and actionable data,” said Pepe Carreras, National Student Clearinghouse Vice President of Education Solutions. “Student Tracker for Colleges and Universities Premium service is the only nationwide source of college enrollment and degree data for more than 3,700 colleges and universities, with user-friendly and easy to understand reports. As a non-profit, the Clearinghouse’s work in Texas further expands our mission while helping all institutions navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, review enrollment trends, and fulfill their reporting, research, verification, transcript, and data exchange demands across the K-20 to workforce continuum for years to come.”

The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley President Guy Bailey noted that, “The Clearinghouse’s Premium Tracker will provide UTRGV with a better understanding of how we can help our students reach their educational goals.”

The Coordinating Board’s retention of Clearinghouse premium data services will benefit educational efforts across Texas by:

• Enabling public institutions of higher education in Texas that already purchase the Clearinghouse’s student tracker services to upgrade to premium services, at no charge, for summer 2020 through summer 2022.

• Providing access to custom reports and visualizations of data as well as timely updates to enrollment and completion data.

• Providing additional de-identified data to the state’s three Education Research Centers.

• Assisting the Texas Education Agency in analyzing data for high school graduates who leave the state to pursue higher education.

All Texas public higher education institutions have received their log-in credentials to access the premium student tracker services. Many are already taking advantage of the enhanced data solutions now available to them. The Clearinghouse is planning training opportunities for later this fall; details will be shared with institutional participants in the coming weeks.
