The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) is sponsoring two upcoming professional development opportunities:

  1. Statewide Meeting on Integrated Reading and Writing (IRW) on December 2, 2016
  2. Acceleration Institute on April 6-7, 2017

Statewide Meeting on IRW – December 2, 2016

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in collaboration with Austin Community College invites you to this meeting designed to help faculty, administrators, and other participants:

  1. Learn about IRW research and outcomes from national experts
  2. Hear updates from THECB on IRW resources and support
  3. Identify and access ongoing training opportunities
  4. Interact with colleagues to share teaching and learning best practices in the field

The meeting will be held from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm at the Holiday Inn Hotel located at 6000 Middle Fiskville Road in Austin.

The conference is free but has limited capacity. Lunch and two snack breaks will be served.

Save the Date: Acceleration Institute – April 6-7, 2017

Texas State University’s Texas Success Initiative Professional Development Program will host a conference at the Texas State University – Round Rock Campus. Administrators, faculty, and support staff will learn how to effectively implement, scale, and evaluate acceleration strategies, such as mainstreaming/corequisites, NCBOs, and IRW models, at their institutions. Additional details and registration information will be announced soon.

Report on Developmental Education: Updates and Progress for Underprepared Students

THECB has released a new report providing updates on the progress of interventions that support the acceleration of achieving college readiness for underprepared students. The report also addresses Senate Bill (SB) 1776, 84th Texas Legislature, Regular Session, which tasked the THECB to report on the progress of high school college preparatory courses as a way to help students achieve college readiness prior to their enrollment in higher education.
