This week marks Disability Voting Rights Week, a time to help ensure Texans with disabilities know their voting rights and the accessible options available to them.
With the November election approaching, now is a good time to check your voter registration, make a plan to vote and learn what assistance is available at the polls.
Texas voters with disabilities may:
- Use accessible voting equipment
- Request assistance from a person of their choice, with limited exceptions
- Use a sign language or spoken-language interpreter
- Vote curbside if physically unable to enter the polling place
- Apply to vote by mail if eligible because of a disability
You do not need to provide proof of your disability when requesting assistance at the polls. Important Election Dates

October 5: Last day to register to vote

October 19: Early voting begins

October 23: Deadline for the early voting clerk to receive an application for a ballot by mail

In Governor Abbott’s Disability Voting Rights Week proclamation, he highlights the importance of “equitable access to voting and civic participation for people with disabilities.” He also encourages all Texans to support the organizations and advocates working to expand voter access and increase awareness of disability voting rights.
