Each year in October, the Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPD) produces a poster for National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) featuring art created by a Texas artist with a disability. The Texas posters have become so popular that more than 2,000 posters are distributed each year to businesses all across the nation. The winning artwork is also incorporated into the Texas HireAbility Campaign. This year's national theme is "Advancing Access and Equity."
You may get acquainted with past poster art competition winners by viewing our webinar, Art Works! Careers in the Visual Arts and People with Disabilities.
Submissions from Texas artists with disabilities may be sent to GCPD@gov.texas.gov . Artists should submit a photo attachment of the original work in a high-resolution digital format. We will also accept a color photocopy or image on a CD sent by postal mail. The original artwork does not need to be submitted with the entry. Artwork in any visual media format is acceptable.
All entries must include a signed entry form, a brief statement about the artist and an explanation of how the artwork is related to the topic of employment. Submission guidelines and the entry form are on the GCPD website at https://gov.texas.gov/organization/disabilities/ndeam_poster.
Entries must be received by email or postmarked by August 24, 2023. There is NO FEE to submit an entry. This year's winner will be announced in September.
The poster will be on permanent display in the Office of the Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities. It will also occasionally be featured in offsite exhibits or at events where the Governor's Committee may be present. The winning artist is also invited to be a featured guest at the annual Lex Frieden Employment Awards ceremony in October.
Thank you for helping us find the 2023 NDEAM artist!
