Siblings of Texans with Disabilities Survey

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension is conducting a survey of siblings of people with disabilities to determine future planning needs in Texas. The survey is an opportunity to provide input that will support future planning for education and supports to better meet the critical needs of siblings of people with disabilities. The deadline to complete the survey is Feb. 28, 2022.

In Texas, approximately 28% of adults have a disability, and 69% of these individuals live with their parents or guardians. Siblings may need to assume caregiving roles as adults with disabilities begin outliving their aging parents or guardians more frequently. However, siblings may be unprepared to provide care due to limited future planning support when planning for the future.

Texans are eligible to complete the survey if:

  • They are 18 or older;
  • They have at least one sibling with a disability;
  • Their sibling is a Texas resident; AND
  • They are a Texas resident.

Siblings who complete the survey will answer questions about themselves, their concerns, and their experiences. Their responses will help identify the supports and resources that siblings need. The survey should take less than 30 minutes to complete, and responses are confidential.
