Effective emergency communication takes care to address the functional and access needs of people with disabilities as part of the "whole community" approach endorsed by FEMA. In this spirit, the Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPD) and the Office of the Governor (OOG) have made the following materials available in American Sign Language (ASL). GCPD will continue to caption videos that will be available on GCPD's YouTube channel. Accessible information helps support the needs of the whole community, and makes sure no one is left without potentially lifesaving information.
We encourage everyone to make use of the State of Texas Effective Communications Toolkit published by the Texas Division of Emergency Management to ensure their communications are as accessible as possible. By making sure our emergency communications are accessible to all people, we help keep the entire community safe, healthy, and informed.
