Governor Abbott Announces Film Friendly Texas Workshop Open To All Texas Communities
The workshop, hosted by the Texas Film Commission, is open to Texas community representatives interested in learning about the Texas film production industry and about how to become Film Friendly Texas certified to attract new local jobs and investments.
TFC at Real Places 2019
Last week we attended the Opening Keynote and Reception of the Texas Historical Commission Real Places 2019 Conference, which celebrates the preservation of the real places and stories of Texas communities. The event included a keynote speech from UT Austin Professor Charles Ramirez Berg on the history of filmmaking in the Lone Star State, and we were on-hand with our friends at the Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) to connect with local community leaders and discuss the power of film preservation.
'Scenic Route' Web Exhibit
Looking for an adventure? The new web exhibit from the Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) is a guided tour of highlights from the Texas Film Round-Up, a pioneering community archives program that recently celebrated 10 years! TAMI hosted 30+ Round-Ups since its inaugural event, traveling 16K+ miles and amassing 40+TB of digital video. We're proud to partner with TAMI on this program and invite you to experience this exciting new web exhibit.

Join us at SXSW 2019
Each year, SXSW brings the opportunity for our office to meet with industry professionals from around the world. We'll kick off our presence at the fest with our Texas Storytellers Meet Up, which will bring together Lone Star State residents from all of our industry sectors to connect and learn how to collaborate on projects. We'll also return to the trade show floor alongside our Economic Development and Tourism sister agency, the Texas Music Office, and bring awareness of our programs and services to attendees.
Legislative Session Update
In January the Texas Comptroller presented the Biennial Revenue Estimate to the Legislature, providing a formal estimate of the funds likely to be available from taxes and other revenue sources over the next two years. Based on this estimate the Senate and the House presented preliminary funding recommendations and filed General Appropriations bills. The Governor also submits budget recommendations. Additionally, committee assignments are made and hearings scheduled. As we move into February, committee and subcommittee hearings will continue regarding the Senate and House versions of the appropriations bills.
