Galveston County Health District, Coastal Health & Wellness (CHW) and ARC Pet Allies are partnering to host a Back-to-School Block Party on Saturday, July 29, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Doyle Convention Center and Saturday, August 5, 9-11 a.m. at Moody Gardens.
The event is open to students in pre-school through 12th grade.
We're giving away school supplies while they last (children must be present) and we'll have FREE back to school student physicals, vision screenings, and immunizations (vaccine pricing will vary).
You can also register for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), get assistance applying for SNAP, Medicaid and other services and get registered and schedule an appointment with a primary care physician at our CHW medical and dental clinics.

CHW joins the League City Regional Chamber of Commerce
Coastal Health & Wellness celebrated joining the League City Regional Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 20.

GHCD WIC attended the 2023 Texas WIC Nutrition & Breastfeeding Conference in Austin, TX.

Alexis Johnson, WIC Nutrition Consultant, was chosen by the Texas WIC Dietetic Internship selection committee to be one out of six to start the preparation phase of the Texas WIC Dietetic Internship 2024 class. From September to December, Alexis will be expected to complete multiple assignments and onboarding tasks that will prepare her to begin intern rotations from January to July. This includes attending seminars in Austin, TX and traveling from several facilities to fulfill supervised practice requirements under various preceptors. The preparation phase and internship can be extremely rigorous and requires full commitment. This internship is a requirement to sit for the registration exam to become a Registered Dietitian. |
Abigail Rodriguez, WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, was awarded the GOLD Lactation Academy GOLDen Volunteer Scholarship. The recipients of this award demonstrated a strong passion for lactation support through their involvement in the community. Out of many amazing applications, only 2 were selected, with one being Abigail Rodriguez. The winners are now enrolled in a 95+ hour Lactation Consultant Training & IBCLC Prep Course free of charge. |

Public health nurses provide naloxone training to K-9 handlers

Our WIC team and participants had a blast making vegetarian cheesy zucchini waffles during Cooking Adventures with WIC!

Children's Center Family Donations
Thank you all for your generous help and donations. The joy and happiness expressed by these families was palpable.
Using the donations, we were able to provide: 3 teenage boys with bed frames, new mattresses, pillows, and bedding 2 families received dressers 5 families received pots, pans, and other kitchen wares 1 toddler with a toddler bed, mattress, and bedding 1 mother with a queen bedframe, mattress, pillows, and bedding 1 4-month-old with new bedding And various other household consumables that everyone was incredibly grateful for.
Thank you again for helping to make a difference in these people’s lives!

WIC vouchers are back at Galveston farmers market
Did you know you can use your WIC vouchers at Galveston's Own Farmers Market?
WIC clients (every child and parent) receive $30 in vouchers each to buy fresh fruits and vegetables from local GOFM farmers.
How does it work? Bring your WIC shopping list/ benefits sheet from the WIC clinic to Galveston's Own Farmers Market info booth to receive a voucher for each person receiving WIC benefits in your home. Start shopping and use those vouchers at any produce vendor from May - September.
