Dyslexia evaluation has been a historically complex process in Texas, with LEAs struggling to determine which program best suits the needs of the student, 504 or Special Education. On February 10, 2022, the updated Texas Dyslexia Handbook went into effect. With updates to this handbook come significant changes to how students are identified for dyslexia, particularly the single pathway for evaluation.

In this session we will discuss the screening, referral, and evaluation process, as well options for instructional services for students identified with dyslexia. Best practices for developing dyslexia identification policies and procedures within your individual LEA will also be addressed.
