Using Music to Facilitate Learning and Active Movement
March 31, 2025 • 9:00 a.m. - noon
Location: ESC Region 11
Music’s effect on our mood and behavior has long been valued. However, its structure and effect can also be used to facilitate learning itself (cognition) and even motor skills (planning, strength, range of motion, etc.). This presentation will discuss literature-based rationale for these concepts.
Additionally, the presenter will utilize her knowledge as a Board Certified Music Therapist and Speech-Language Pathologist to present practical tips for efficiently and effectively including music in therapy in working with a variety of populations. The information is particularly directed toward Occupational and Physical Therapists (and related caregivers).
The PowerPoint presentation, handouts, and hands-on learning opportunities will also be included to facilitate understanding and application. This session is aligned with the Intervention component of the TEA-required self-assessment.

By focusing on leadership development, role clarity, and practical workload management techniques, we aim to address common challenges faced in real-world educational settings. Participants will explore actionable approaches for leveraging tools like assistive technology, Response to Intervention (RTI), and consultative models while delving into mentoring, meeting efficiency, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
We will create a framework for empowering teams to deliver high-quality, student-centered support. This session is aligned with the Intervention and Evaluation component(s) of the TEA-required self-assessment.
