Get "Lunar-y" with us as we talk all about observing the moon. September 14 is International Observe the Moon Night, and there's a penumbral lunar eclipse happening on Tuesday, September 17, that will be visible from most locations in the U.S. What better time to brush up on your moon facts and myths, moon craters and phases? We will make a model that shows moon phases and talk about the upcoming lunar eclipse. We'll also talk about how and when to observe the moon.

Have you ever wanted to learn more about hummingbirds? Why do hummingbirds migrate? Where do they go? Explore these and other questions with a museum educator to discover the migration patterns of hummingbirds.

Math & Art Series: Music & Fractions (RECORDING ONLY) Imagination Fort Worth Grades 2-6 FREE Available in English and Spanish
Did you know musicians are actually masters of fractions? Yes, it's true, being able to read and play music means using fractions. We will look at the basics of fractions including adding fractions and their role in everyday life as well as how music works with fractions. Famed singer songwriter John Dennie shows us how math is used in creating music. Looking at music from the perspective of math will open students’ eyes to the ways math are used all around them every day. Specifically, the value of notes in relation to their fractional value.

Abuela's Weave: Storytime and Craft Pioneer Museum Grades Pre-K-5 October 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, or 23 1:00-2:00 p.m. CST FREE
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with us! Students will enjoy a reading of the book Abuela's Weave by Omar S. Castañeda. Hear about the journey of one girl and her grandmother as they weave beautiful tapestries and take them to market. See examples of different types of looms used throughout history. Learn some basic weaving keywords and watch a demonstration of how to weave your own miniature tapestry on a cardboard loom. Instructions for making a cardboard loom for your classroom are included in the pre-lesson download.

Gulf Habitats: Virtual Aquarium Tour Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Grades 4-7 October 7 or November 18 10:00 a.m. CST FREE
Join biologists at Sea Center Texas for a virtual aquarium tour. We'll learn about different Gulf of Mexico marine habitats, the species that live in each unique coastal environment, and the adaptations that help them survive. Students will see real-life examples found at our aquarium.

Examine artworks in the Carter’s collection and explore how artists take inspiration from engineered structures, including buildings and bridges, and apply those concepts in their own creations.
In this module, we’ll discuss Georgia O’Keeffe’s Ranchos Church, New Mexico while learning about the concept of thermal mass.
