Our Investments Division is seeking an Investment Analyst to join our team! In this role you will have an opportunity to bring creative ideas to support and improve investment performance. The Public Equity team is a creative, prudent-proven, and industry-leading group of individuals that oversee approximately 41% of the Trust fund with an estimated $11.9 billion dollars in domestic and international markets. Through disciplined procedures and substantial expertise the team support and finance retirement annuities for over 500,000 Texas State employees and retirees. This position involves maintaining a high level of knowledge with respect to geographic regions, industries and companies inside and outside the United States. The ideal candidate is an individual with natural curiosity and passion for investment research and a flexible but independent thought process for consistent results.
Essential Functions includes, but is not limited to:
- Uses critical thinking to develop and maintain expert knowledge of assigned industries, geographic regions and companies.
- Performs statement forecasting and modeling, using functionality of primary analytical software tools.
- Identifies key developments impacting stock price performance and demonstrates balanced appropriate advocacy with respect to security selection and weightings within assigned portfolios.
- Communicates efficiently, effectively and in a timely manner through a variety of channels, both verbally and in writing.
- Prepares for all meetings and participates in team meetings with creative ideas and observations that can improve investment performance.
- Responds to portfolio management requests for information, analysis and opinion.
- Manages priorities and focus time on most productive opportunities.
- Works closely with trading staff to assure best execution of trades.
- Maintains documentation supporting investment recommendations.
- Votes proxies in the best interest of the plan and in accordance with agency policy.
- Participates in the evaluation of broker performance for the purpose of allocating trades.
- Applies team’s investment process.
- Travels domestically and may travel periodically abroad for company visits, industry conferences, analyst visits and other functions to develop the knowledge, resources and contacts necessary for quality research and analysis of assigned geographic regions, economic sectors and companies.
- Complies with ERS Investment Policy, which includes the CFA Institute (CFAI) Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.
- Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policy.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Your application for employment must reflect how you meet each of the following minimum qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 24 semester hours in finance, economics, accounting or a combination there of. Each year of related work experience over the required minimum may be substituted for 12 semester hours of the specific course work requirement.
- Four (4) years of equity research and/or portfolio management work experience.
- Each level of the CFA program successfully completed may be substituted for six (6) months of required work experience.
- Master’s degree in business, finance, economics and/or accounting may substitute for one (1) year of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with International Equities 6. Experience using Bloomberg, FactSet, Thomson One, Holt, Barra and/or similar software and information systems. 7. Experience with global equity markets. 8. Experience supporting portfolio managers in a public or private pension system, endowment or mutual fund environment. 9. Experience traveling domestically and abroad for business. 10. Level one (1) of Chartered Financial Analyst or CFA designation. 11. Three (3) years of experience using Microsoft Excel; experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or other business productivity related software in a professional environment.
