The Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) administers the retirement and group health benefit programs for the employees and retirees of State of Texas agencies and some higher education institutions. What we need
An Enterprise Architect to serve integral role in our Information Systems division and ERS. In this role, you will promote the improvement of our information technology infrastructure, advance business operations, set the direction and approach for integrating information systems and applications as well as ensure project and program alignment with ERS strategic goals, business needs and management priorities. In addition, you will develop, communicate, maintain and enforce the enterprise architecture models, representations, initiatives and standards that we use to effectively achieve our business and technology activities. Finally, we need someone with excellent technical and analytical skills, be detail-oriented, a self-starter and team player as well as have strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

What you will do
- Serves as a top system design resource responsible for Information Systems technical strategy and contributor to the overall Information Systems division technology strategy.
- Develops and maintains architecture diagrams and models for related systems using the appropriate design methodology for current operations and planning for future standardization.
- Creates business architecture models that reflect the ERS strategies and goals.
- Provides business architecture and systems processing guidance and recommends enterprise architecture strategies, processes and methodologies.
- Documents current and future systems, as well as the transition steps to the future systems.
- Expands ERS’ use of technology as a strategic enabler of business goals and objectives.
- Evaluates internal functions, business development strategies, IT processes and suggests improvements.
- Conducts business reviews, takes business requirements and translates them into information technology solutions and strategies; recommends technical architecture and defines high level solutions
- Establishes methods and standards for compliance architecture, such as data storage, metadata management and change control.
- Involved in the development of ERS policies, standards and guidelines that direct the selection, development, implementation and use of information technology within ERS.
- Serves as a top level technical expert in leading multiple projects to ensure enterprise-level application and infrastructure rollouts.
- Oversees the architecture of the most important and complex projects.
- Participates in Proof of Concept as well as in build versus buy efforts.
- Evaluates systems design for discrepancies and vulnerabilities; suggests and carries out improvements.
- Ensures the efficiency, security, and support of ERS systems.
- Participates in the design and implementation of ITSM standards, tools and methodologies.
- Maintains strong relationships with key vendor partners and researches product industry developments, legislation and regulations and technologies which may impact ERS.
- Develops, collects and analyzes Enterprise Architecture metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
- Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
- Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct.
- Performs on-call or scheduled after hours work as required.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Your application for employment must reflect how you meet each of the following minimum qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in data processing, computer science, computer information systems, or management information systems or a related field; or attainment of a certification from a two-year technical school with specialization in computer technology qualifies for two (2) years of the required education. Transcripts may be requested from finalist.
- Each year of experience over the required minimum years may substitute for the education on a 30 semester hour per year basis.
- Eight (8) years of experience in systems analysis and design work in a progressively difficult role, including experience securing enterprise networks.
- Eight (8) years of IT Architecture experience.
- Eight (8) years of experience leading large, complex/critical technology projects.
- Eight (8) years of experience recommending strategy for mid-large sized organizations.
- Six (6) years of experience mentoring others.
- Two (2) years of IT Infrastructure experience.
