  Loop 1604 North Expansion Project
May 7, 2025
Segment 1 of Loop 1604 North Expansion reaches 90% completion
First segment of the project is on track for completion by late summer
TxDOT’s Loop 1604 North Expansion marks a major milestone as the first segment of the project reaches 90% completion and enters its final months. Segment 1, from SH 16 to I-10, is on schedule to be complete by late summer 2025.
The remaining work will focus on paving operations and completing the Leon Creek frontage road bridge. Once complete, this segment will feature expanded mainlanes, safer access points, and improved frontage roads.
This marks the first of several major milestones expected in 2025 for the entire expansion project. By early summer, the second flyover ramp at the I-10 interchange will open. Additional milestones include the opening of a third flyover ramp, turnaround bridges, and access ramps.
As these milestones are reached and improvements are delivered, drivers are expected to experience smoother commutes and easier connections as they travel across the corridor.
Background The Loop 1604 North Expansion is a Texas Clear Lanes project aimed at enhancing safety, improving mobility and reducing congestion along 23 miles of Loop 1604 from SH 16 to I-35. This $1.4 billion project includes the expansion of mainlanes from a 4- to 10-lane expressway, high-occupancy vehicles (HOV) lanes in each direction, a multi-level interchange at I-10, an innovative intersection at Blanco Road, and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations on the frontage roads.
The expansion is planned in six segments with five segments currently under construction. A summary of progress for each segment is highlighted in the table below.
