Update on Recent RTS / Cognos Report Issues

Good afternoon,

In recent weeks the department has experienced intermittent stability issues with RTS and delays with Cognos reports, as you have likely noticed.  We know these issues are frustrating and impact our shared ability to serve the motoring public, as our regional offices have experienced the same problems.  The purpose of this message is to provide you with additional background regarding these problems and our plans to improve the system.

RTS Availability

We identified the cause of the intermittent stability issues in the network of servers that support RTS.  The TxDMV Information Technology (IT) team implemented a fix last week that resolved the stability issue. 

Cognos Reports

The delay in Cognos reports is directly related to the nightly batch process that updates all motor vehicle transactions completed by TxDMV (regional and headquarters offices) and County Tax Assessor-Collector offices.  As you are aware, March and April are historically high-volume months which increase the amount of records required to be updated.  In addition, the batch process is not updating records at the expected speed. 

TxDMV has been working on an upgrade to the software that runs the batch process and we expect it to be implemented no later than July 2018.  It is anticipated this upgrade will significantly improve the speed of this process, resulting in consistent availability of Cognos reports. 

The Week to Date and Inventory Transaction Reports may not be available at 8:00 AM daily until the upgrade is deployed. TxDMV will continue to provide notices if any reporting delays are expected.
