Massage Exam Eligibility Update
Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation sent this bulletin at 01/12/2024 05:03 PM CST| TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF LICENSING & REGULATION |
Effective immediately all massage therapy license applicants will receive a notice of Texas Massage Therapy Exam eligibility once TDLR has received the massage therapy license application and verified that the required 500-hour massage therapy course has been completed.
Applicants will automatically receive an eligibility email notice from TDLR’s third party examination vendor, PSI, for the Texas Massage Therapy Examination. The Texas Massage Therapy Exam is developed by TDLR but administered by PSI and is the default examination for license applicants. The email that is automatically generated from PSI will include instructions for registering for the Texas Massage Therapy Exam.
Alternatively, applicants may choose to take the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEX) administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB). If an applicant chooses to take the MBLEX, they will need to contact FSMTB directly for exam information and registration. TDLR does not receive MBLEX results from FSMTB. For MBLEX results to be properly recorded, applicants are solely responsible for sending the MBLEX exam results to TDLR.
NOTE: Applicants who take the Texas Massage Therapy exam will not be required to sit for the Texas jurisprudence exam since the law and rules topic are included in the examination. Applicants who take the MBLEX exam will be required to complete the jurisprudence exam.
