Child Protective Services 101

Training Description: Have you ever wanted to know what types of programs and services are offered to families involved with DFPS? This presentation will give you an overview of the Child Protective Services (CPS) division of DFPS. CPS responsibilities include: Providing services to children and families in their own homes, placing children in foster care, providing services to help youth in foster care successfully transition to adulthood, and helping children get adopted.

DFPS Public Meetings

DFPS holds public meetings to get input on DFPS programs and initiatives. These forums are open to everyone to attend. Below is information on upcoming public meetings with links for additional information.

DFPS Council – The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Council was created during the 85th Texas Legislative Session in 2017 as part of House Bill 5, the legislation that established the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) as an agency separate from the Health and Human Services Commission. The DFPS Council is a governor appointed advisory council to DFPS and the purpose is to study and make recommendations to the DFPS Commissioner regarding the management and operation of the department. The next scheduled DFPS Council meeting is Friday, March 8 at the Brown Heatly Building in Austin. Advisory Committee on Promoting Adoption of Minority Children (ACPAMC)

The Advisory Committee on Promoting Adoption of Minority Children (ACPAMC) provides stakeholders with an opportunity to give input on agency policy focusing on enhancements to the systems that promote the adoption of and provision of services to minority children. Committee meetings are open to the public and prior meeting agendas, minutes and Power Point presentations can be found here: ACPAMC

Public Private Partnership (PPP) and the Committee on Advancing Residential Practices (CARP) - The Public Private Partnership (PPP) explores, studies, and recommends innovative and creative practices that affect the Texas Foster Care system. The next PPP meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 1 at 9:00 a.m. at the Brown Heatly Building in Austin. The Committee on Advancing Residential Practices (CARP) brings together residential child care contractors, associations, and DFPS representatives to strengthen partnerships, improve communication, and provide a venue for focusing on enhancements to the system that support enhanced safety, permanency and well-being for children. The next CARP meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the Brown Heatly Building in Austin.
