Stacey Brown and the Texas A&M University's School of Nursing become the 12th site to sponsor HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Pre-school Youngsters) in Texas. She sat down with KBTX to share more about the program, and its impact on the Brazos Valley Region.
HIPPY is a home visitation program that builds on the natural bond between a parent and their child. This program is offered at no cost to the families that participate and utilizes a 30 week curriculum for families of 3 and 4 year-olds covering 5 domains: Math, Science, Language, Literacy, and Motor Development to prepare preschool-aged children for success in school.

 Youth Leadership Month Writing Contest
PEI's Youth Ambassador Initiative held their first writing contest in February to raise awareness of issues facing today's youth. This youth-led project resulted in great submissions from around Texas, highlighting the challenges and triumphs of today's youth. Writers responded to one of three prompts:
- How would you improve your school? Did your current school meet your expectations? What differed between your expectations and what you experienced?
- How do you handle feeling stuck, unmotivated, or frustrated with your current situation? How do you overcome this and gain motivation?
- How do you express creativity?
Congratulations to Sophia Cantu, of San Antonio, and Miguel Umanzor, of Raymondville, for being selected winners of their respective age groups! Their peers selected them as winners because of their focused, personal, and detailed responses about the difficulties many youth experience in their day-to-day lives, while also providing inspiring insight for how to overcome these challenges. They shared how they overcame struggles with peers, acceptance at school and after-school programming, and working to achieve their full potential in difficult times.
Keep an eye out for highlights from these submissions and other opportunities from the Youth Ambassadors!
