PEI is pleased to announced that Anjulie Chaubal has agreed to serve in the position of PEI Program Director. This is a new role for PEI, developed to improve coordination across programs, streamline and improve program implementation and processes, and to help shape and sharpen our work supporting families and communities across the state.
Anjulie holds a Masters of Public Health with a concentration in Health Policy and Management from Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Public Health and Bachelor of Arts from Texas A&M University.
Anjulie is no stranger to PEI, and has served multiple roles here, most recently as the Division Administrator for Youth and Family programs. Throughout her tenure, Anjulie has been a champion of taking a new look at programs to enhance quality and services, in addition to working collaboratively with stakeholders and agencies to support broader prevention work.
Anjulie will be working on transitioning into her new role in the coming weeks, and will continue to serve as the leader for the Youth and Families team until that role is filled.

Keeping the Conversation Going - Water Safety

Our goal is to reach as many individuals as possible to equip families with knowledge and resources to support water safety practices in Texas. Water Safety through the Whole Hand Rules - by Colin's Hope
This course covers basic water safety tips from Colin's Hope and focuses on a specific water safety tool called, "The Whole Hand Rules" that adults and caregivers can use to engage young children in water safety topics and teach them basic water safety behaviors and skills. Participants will also learn about the Colin's Hope Water Safety Quiz and are able to order (up to 150) English and/or Spanish Water Safety parent/caregiver cards from www.colinshope.org to distribute to families and clients.
Achieve OnDemand: Domestic Violence in Home Visiting (Self-Paced Course)
Domestic violence is a prevalent and recurring issue in home visiting. In this course, you will build your confidence to address domestic violence while working with families as their home visitor. Topics include the impact of violence on family systems, parenting, and child development. Common scenarios and strategies are presented for talking with parents about keeping themselves and their children safe. This course supports you in developing a non-judgmental approach in working with families whose background and circumstances may or may not be differ from your own.

Near @ Home
NEAR@Home is a two-generation process that provides home visitors with the skills and support to discuss ACEs and resilience safely, effectively, and respectfully with parents, focusing on hope and avoiding labeling. The two components of NEAR@Home include the NEAR@Home Toolkit and the NEAR@Home Facilitated Learning Process, both designed to complement one another and provide a holistic, reflective learning process that helps professionals to develop both the knowledge and skills needed to feel confident and competent when partnering with families who have experienced trauma.

The Texas Suicide Prevention Collaborative is now offering additional learning opportunities as an extension of their 2022 Texas Suicide Prevention Symposium. Family and Youth Success Program - Request for Applications
The Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) Division seeks applications from qualified entities within the State of Texas to provide Family and Youth Success Program (FAYS) services.
About The Family and Youth Success Program
The FAYS program addresses family conflict and everyday challenges while promoting strong families and youth resilience. Some current topics FAYS addresses include bullying, school attendance, coping with divorce, and building healthy family relationships.
Across the state, FAYS partners with families with children 6-17 years of age; however, in some communities with identified need, FAYS Grantees will provide programming to families with younger children.
This Request for Applications (RFA) will award grants to provide programming statewide to promote strong families and youth resilience by funding local programs to increase protective factors in families and communities.

Basic Center Program
The Basic Center Program (BCP) provides temporary shelter and counseling services to youth who have left home without permission of their parents or guardians, have been forced to leave home, or other homeless youth who might otherwise end up in the law enforcement or in the child welfare, mental health, or juvenile justice systems. Additional services may include: street-based services; home-based services for families with youth at risk of separation from the family; drug abuse education and prevention services; and at the request of runaway and homeless youth, testing for sexually transmitted diseases.
