June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month! It's a good reminder for all Texans to look out for and help those in our communities who are elderly. This month we encourage you to promote elder abuse awareness within your networks and communities online.

On June 15, join us by wearing purple for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. When someone comments on your outfit, start a conversation about elder abuse. It's more common than you think, yet rarely discussed. Learn more about World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and how to recognize adult abuse at  Everyonesbusiness.org and share the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day flyer.

To help you reach as many individuals as possible we’ve put together a toolkit that includes informative messages and resources that can help older adults stay safe and supported.

This toolkit includes:

  • Financial Exploitation Training
  • Links to relevant resources and information
  • Recommended hashtags to include in your content
  • Sample Graphics
  • Sample Social Media Posts

These messages can be used as is or they can be customized as needed to better serve your target community. We appreciate the continued support for our elder population.

By law, Texas requires anyone who suspects adult abuse, neglect, or exploitation to report it to the Texas Abuse Hotline at 1-800-252-5400 or online at TxAbuseHotline.org. Callers can remain anonymous.

Included in This Toolkit:

Learn more about the signs of financial exploitation and what you can do to prevent it in your community.

About the Trainer: Council member, Julie Krawczyk is the Director of Elder Financial Safety at The Senior Source. Krawczyk was appointed to the Family and Protective Services Council in 2020.
