National Human Trafficking Awareness Day

Human Trafficking

National Human Trafficking Awareness Day is January 11th.

According to the University of Texas at Austin (2017), there are over 300,000 victims of human trafficking in Texas, including almost 79,000 minors and youth victims of sex trafficking and nearly 234,000 adult victims of labor trafficking. The pandemic has made trafficking even worse, according to a report by Polaris.

Wear Blue Day is part of the Department of Homeland Security's Blue Campaign to combat human trafficking. Homeland Security works with law enforcement and organizations like DFPS to protect the basic right of freedom and bring those who exploit human lives to justice.

PEI partners are invited to take photos of themselves, friends, family, and colleagues wearing blue clothing and then share them on social media – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram – along with the #WearBlueDay hashtag.

Anyone can participate, all you need is a piece of blue clothing! Be sure to tag the department in your post on social media by using the handle @TexasDFPS and email your photos to HumanTrafficking@dfps.state.tx.us

It’s the role of the home visiting supervisor to equip, support and partner with home visitors to address these issues within the bounds of their role in a home visiting program.

This course will further your understanding of the impact of trauma on family and community systems as encountered by home visitors. It also provides strategies for you as a supervisor to support a home visitor in addressing trauma while promoting practices of reflection and self-care.
