What made you interested in your career? It was based on my studies in Family Psychology and moving to Galveston and learning about the community programs available for youth. I began my first 18 years of being associated with Prevention and Early Intervention as the Program Director of the Galveston Community Youth Development Program. I will have been with the PEI Division for six years in October, after coming to PEI in 2014 to work in Contracts and then on the Early Childhood (EC) Team in 2019.
What is your role at PEI? As a Program Specialist my role is to provide technical assistance, training, and programmatic oversight of multiple contracts, including HIP, TNFP, HOPES, and MIECHV. Our team is very collaborative when it comes to staffing issues, concerns and celebrating program successes. The EC Team is very rewarding to work with.
What are some upcoming projects you’re working on? Upcoming projects include transferring PEI's Fort Worth region to our new Program Specialist, transferring two providers from Region 6 and gaining two providers to add to my Region 11 existing cohort and one provider from Region 8.
What do you like to do for fun? I like to dance, do crossword puzzles, travel, scrapbook, and most importantly spend time with family and friends.
How are you and your loved ones managing current events? My husband works from home and is sometime in the field. I have been teleworking since March 16th. We use, FaceTime, WhatsApp, and Zoom to stay in connected to family and friends.
Tell us about any hobbies, pastimes, and your family. My dad just turned 96 in August. All the folks that know me have heard me tell them over and over the age of my dad at his next birthday! Prior to February of this year, I was spending weekends in San Antonio with him. I don’t think many folks know that my dad was one of the first men in Texas to gain custody of two daughters (ages 8 and 10) back in the 1970’s. It has a lot to do with why I am interested in child abuse and neglect prevention and mental health services.
