Coronavirus Guidance from DSHS and the Governor is available online for all Texans as we respond to the pandemic. Information changes weekly; it's a good idea to bookmark this page for the most up-to-date, accurate information on current response efforts.

New COVID Resources From the CDC

CDC has released a variety of new resources to help navigate the COVID-19 outbreak: 

  • A Toolkit for Young Adults: 15 to 21 that includes easy to read FAQ’s, fact sheets, infographics, PSA’s, social media messages, and videos.
  • A Coronavirus Self-Checker with questions to help individuals determine if they need to seek medical care.
  • Mental health resources useful for communicating with youth are available on the Support For Teens and Young Adults web page, and include COVID-19 prevention messages along with contact information for disaster, domestic violence, child abuse, and suicide prevention services. 
  • A Toolkit for K-12 Schools where programs can find updated social media messages, posters, and videos on how to properly wear face masks, appropriately practice social distancing, and safely manage youth sports.

Partners in Prevention Virtual Conference Update

PEI is finalizing the groundwork for the first ever virtual Partners in Prevention Conference. Conference dates and session information will be announced soon. Registration will go live in mid-to-late August. 

Registration fees: As in previous years, each grantee will receive a discount code for up to four free registrations per contract. Any registrations beyond that will cost $75 each, and only if you wish to register more than four people for the conference. There will be no early bird registration discount.

Training Tuesdays with PEI

Training Tuesdays: Colored Pencils on a blue background

Join us from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Central Standard Time each Tuesday as we explore current, relevant topics based on state trends, featuring PEI speakers and guest experts.

July 28: Introduction to Continuous Quality Improvement

Join Prevention and Early Intervention's 'Training Tuesdays' for an exploration of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI). This is an introductory webinar, covering key elements of CQI and including real-world examples of how organizations use CQI in their work to improve services and processes. Upon completion, participants will be able to describe CQI, identify SMART Aims and understand the components of the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle.

Aug 4: Keeping Kids Safe on the Way to School and After

Join us as we explore the current research around child pedestrian safety. Topics include:

  • Current statistics and risk factors regarding child pedestrian fatalities and serious incidents
  • Child pedestrian safety curriculum
  • Programs and initiatives surrounding child pedestrian safety
  • Safety in school zones
  • Ideas to help prevent pedestrian accidents
  • Appropriate caregiver/babysitter selection

Making Effective Referrals

Everybody needs help sometimes; when the right assistance comes at the right time, it can be lifesaving. This workshop teaches participants how to implement a client-driven, partnership-based approach to Information & Referral Services (I&R) where the focus is on building parents’ skills to research and access services as they both build their knowledge of what's available in the community. This two-day training will take place July 29-30 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Register today.

Vicarious Trauma/Vicarious Resilience

Understanding how other people’s trauma impacts our own well-being is the first step to improving our ability to sustain positive relationships. The workshop begins with learning about and identifying our own signs of trauma exposure response and our emotional triggers. Participants practice strategies for de-escalating their own and others’ emotional responses at the moment. Participants will be introduced to Journey to Vitality, a framework for wellness. This 2-day training will be offered Aug 4th–5th from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Register today.

Webinar: Culturally Responsive Parent Engagement

The National Center on Parent, Family and Community Engagement will explore tools, resources, and ideas you can use to create a more culturally and linguistically responsive environment. Learn how it can help families engage in their child's early learning and step up as leaders. Hear from programs that have successfully engaged families from diverse backgrounds as leaders and advocates.

Water Safety through the Whole Hand Rules

This course covers basic water safety tips from Colin's Hope and focuses on a specific water safety tool called, "The Whole Hand Rules" that adults and caregivers can use to engage young children in water safety topics and teach them basic water safety behaviors and skills. Participants will also learn about the Colin's Hope Water Safety Quiz and are able to order (up to 150) English and/or Spanish Water Safety parent/caregiver cards from www.colinshope.org to distribute to families and clients.

To take the course: Type or paste the course names above into the search bar on the PEI Learning Hub.

• Click on the course and select “request.”
• On your transcript select “launch” to begin.
• When the video is complete, go to "completed" courses in your transcript.
• Select "evaluate" to provide feedback.

New Resources from NICHQ

The National Institute for Children's Health Quality (NICHQ) has created a social media toolkit for National Breastfeeding Month featuring social media posts and graphics to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of breast milk, as well as empower and support all mothers to achieve their breastfeeding goals. Download the Toolkit here.

In the U.S., Black babies die at more than twice the rate of white babies, with Black maternal mortality three times higher than white mothers. NICHQ has published Four Steps to Address Racism’s Impact on Maternal and Child Health to provide key strategies to address disparity and disproportionality in your daily work. 


PEIRS Application Cybersecurity Training
