An Educator's Guide to Reporting Child Abuse

The Statewide Intake (SWI) division of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services developed a guide to help educators and other school employees who need to make reports of child abuse or neglect. You will find printable English and Spanish versions of the guide available for download on the DFPS website at:

The guide highlights the information you need to have to make an efficient report. It also addresses concerns about mandatory reporting, confidentiality, false reports, and failure to report.

We are happy to share this guide with you and urge you to share it with your colleagues and staff.

Also, if you are interested in a free in-person presentation on how to recognize and report abuse, you may contact SWI Community Engagement Specialist Porscha Roney by email or phone at (512) 929-6958.

Thank you for your service to the children of Texas.
