Masks Recommended Onboard DCTA Vehicles

Due to the novel coronavirus, also known COVID-19, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends wearing a cloth face mask in public settings where individuals may come in close proximity to others. DCTA is following the CDC’s recommendation and encourages all passengers to wear a cloth face mask while onboard agency vehicles to protect themselves, other passengers and our operators.

The CDC now knows from recent studies that a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus lack symptoms (“asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (“pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms.  This means that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity — for example, speaking, coughing, or sneezing—even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms.

While wearing face masks can help prevent the spread of COVID-19, it is still suggested passengers maintain six feet of distance whenever possible between other riders and DCTA bus and rail operators.
