DALLAS (April 22, 2014): The Bath House Cultural Center presents singer-songwriter Annie Benjamin in a live performance to be recorded for her next CD project. Known for her work as a solo artist, flutist and for her extraordinary vocal talents, Annie has performed on stage in several local theater productions, most recently in the Echo Theatre production Her Song. The Annie Benjamin Live CD Project takes place at 8:00 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Bath House Cultural Center, 521 E. Lawther, Dallas, TX 75218. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/663882 or at the door the night of the performance.

A long-time solo artist in the North Texas area, Annie Benjamin took a break from recording for some seven years. During this period, Annie became involved in several Dallas-area theater productions. Now, she is looking forward to this exciting new project. Known for her vocal ability to go from 0 to 180 degrees in the blink-of-an-eye, her driving flute licks and her alt-country-pop melodies have taken her from the theater to folk festivals and into elementary schools for educational presentations. She is also a soccer mom, guerrilla gardener and confirmed chocoholic.

Annie decided at the age of 9 that she wanted to be a singer, so it was a good thing that she woke up one morning with a "voice that could stop traffic." She first picked up flute at age 11, and by the age of 13 was recognized by the Texas Flute Club as an "outstanding young player". She went on to study with Claire Johnson at Southern Methodist University, hit the Dallas club scene in the 1980's and followed various blues artists including ZuZu Bolin. She first picked up guitar while in her 20s in order to write and accompany herself.

Throughout her career, Annie has followed a diverse path. She has performed in musical revues, theatrical productions, and has developed educational programs incorporating music and environmental awareness for elementary schools. She plays classical flute duets at swanky venues in the DFW area, and country music in dives and honky-tonks. She has performed at The New Music Seminar, The Kerrville Folk Festival, and in 2006 was a featured songwriter at the National Folk Alliance. She has performed in productions with Dallas theater companies including Echo Theater, Kitchen Dog Theater and with playwright David Marquis.

In 2001 she released her first album Life's Blessings on her label Rocket Girl Music, to critical acclaim, and she received rotation in the U.S. and Europe. In April of 2007 she released Some Kind of Wonder, which she co-produced with guitarist/songwriter/engineer Cam King.

Her music has been featured on NPR's Car Talk, in plays, and in church videos. Annie will claim lots of influences on her music; however her biggest came from listening to a local country music station as a child with her dad. At the age of seven, Annie was already versed in classics by Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Olivia Newton John and Chet Atkins. Her teens were spent absorbing The Beatles, Pat Benetar, all things Punk and a lot of classical music. She and her gal pals had a garage band in Jr. High and she has been in numerous bands since. She fronts her own band Rocket Girl which has an Alt/Americana sound with just the right about of twang and a high octane mix of country, rock and powerhouse vocals.

Annie is involved with numerous charities in the North Texas area, and she really does believe that music can heal the world. Please visit
