Eastern Light: A Solo Exhibition by Abebe Zelelew at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center January 24th, 2014 – February 28th, 2014

DALLAS – The Oak Cliff Cultural Center presents Eastern Light: A Solo Exhibition by Abebe Zelelew, a collection of mixed-media works inspired by his life in Ethiopia. The exhibition will be on view January 24 to February 28, 2014 at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center, 223 W Jefferson Blvd., Dallas, TX 75211. A reception for the artist will be held Friday, January 31st, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This exhibit and reception are FREE and open to the public.

Eastern Light features a metamorphosis of raw materials depicting the choreographic gestures of the working men and women of Ethiopia. Zelelew’s work captures the essence of African culture and lifestyle through traditional African wood carving techniques and cubist painting on hardwood panels. The end result is a beautiful display of color, line, texture and shape, leaving a long-lasting impression of Ethiopian culture.

Abebe Zelelew graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Addis Ababa with a degree in graphic arts. He has held solo and group exhibitions in Texas, California and Washington D.C., and internationally in China, Djibouti, Ethiopia, France and Greece. His work is included in the National Museum of Ethiopia in Addis Abeba, Chateau de la Court d’Aron, Saint-Cyr en Talmondais, France, and private collections around the world.
