DALLAS - The Dallas City Council has authorized the Dallas Public Facility Corporation (DPFC) to acquire, develop and own University Hills Apartments, a mixed-income multifamily development planned for 1910 E. Wheatland Road within the University Hills community, a multi-phase and master-planned development now underway in southern Dallas.
Half of the 420 homes — 210 units — will be income-restricted, serving households earning at or below 60% and 80% of area median income. City Council approval is required because DPFC ownership will provide an ad valorem, or property tax, exemption for the project.
“This development will expand workforce housing choices near the UNT Dallas campus and support the city’s attainable housing needs as outlined in the Dallas is Home policy,” said Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert.
University Hills represents a major investment in southern Dallas, bringing new housing, amenities and economic opportunity for residents.
“As Chair of the Housing and Homelessness Solutions Committee, I am thrilled to champion this mixed-income affordable housing development, a key part of a bold master plan for District 8 in Southern Dallas”, said District 8 City Council member Lori Blair. “I’m energized by my colleagues’ strong support and excited to move this transformative project forward as well as continued to support for the new police academy and the work around the University of North Texas at Dallas."
The apartment project will be delivered in partnership with UH Multifamily Development 1, LLC, an affiliate of Hoque Global and Anchor Capital Partners. Next steps include completing financing and executing project agreements.
