DALLAS — The Dallas City Council has approved the use of $2.2 million from the 2024 bond program to construct six new traffic signals, advancing its commitment to eliminating traffic deaths and reducing serious injury crashes.
The new signals will support intersection safety as part of the Vision Zero Action Plan adopted by the Dallas City Council in June 2022 to reduce severe crashes. Dallas’ Vision Zero work includes engineering improvements, signal timing adjustments and pedestrian safety measures designed to address conditions that contribute to dangerous collisions.
The City’s approach recognizes that safer streets require coordinated investments rather than a single solution. Alongside other transportation improvements, the new signals will help Dallas translate its adopted safety goals into infrastructure improvements serving residents, workers and visitors across the city.
“Every person deserves to travel safely through Dallas,” said City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert. “These investments demonstrate how we are turning our commitment to safer streets into action. By continuing to put bond dollars to work, we are strengthening transportation infrastructure and supporting our goal of preventing tragedies on our roads.”
The new traffic signals will be constructed at the intersections of Masters Drive at Checota Drive, Pear Ridge Drive at Haverwood Drive, Jefferson Boulevard at Van Buren Avenue, Buckner Boulevard at Gross Road, Illinois Avenue at Western Park and Wheatland Road at Greenspan Avenue.
These investments complement annual budget funding and grants supporting transportation safety projects.
