Exhibition Celebrates 40 Years of Día de Muertos Art at the Bath House Cultural Center

On view from October 10 through November 7, 2026

Dallas - The Bath House Cultural Center (BHCC) presents 40th annual “Día de Muertos: They’re Having a Party!” exhibition in 2026, celebrating four decades of bringing this Mexican tradition to Dallas. The exhibition and opening reception with the artists will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2026. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Since the exhibition was first introduced to the center by Cora Cardona, Founder of Teatro Dallas, the BHCC has honored the cultural significance of the celebration through artworks and altars that express love, remembrance, and the enduring bonds between the living and those who have passed away. To celebrate this milestone, this year’s exhibition transforms the galleries into a grand party in honor of those who are no longer with us.

Central to the Día de Muertos celebration is the belief that, on November 1 and 2, the spirits of the departed return to the world of the living to spend time with their families. They are welcomed with altars prepared in their honor, where offerings of food, drink, and other meaningful objects are placed to delight and nourish them during their annual visit.

For this exhibition, curator Enrique Fernández Cervantes invited artists to imagine their departed relatives, friends, and other loved ones celebrating in the afterlife and enjoying the activities, passions, and experiences that brought them joy in life. Together, the artworks create a lively celebration in which the honored spirits are imagined enjoying themselves beyond this life. Visitors are invited to enter the galleries and share in the festivities while remembering the people whose lives continue to inspire love, joy, and remembrance.

The exhibition includes works by David Adams, Vasfie Adberafi, Patricia Allen, Lynn Wilkes Armstrong, Olga Arredondo Brock, Wendy Barkett, Kimberly Byers, Sherilyn Christian-Williams, James Gregory Cisneros, Maureeen Cole, Ilse Contreras, Tatiana Contreras, Chrissy Cortez-Mathis, Celina Delossantos, Adamaris Dominguez, Dan Dudley & Lori Dudley, Jeane Elliott Clayton, Shannon Fernandez, Victor Ferretiz, Leticia Garcia, Eliseo Garcia, Jade Germany, Jim Hastings, Juan J.
