New Exhibitions Open This Saturday at the Latino Cultural Center
Join us this Saturday, August 29, from 6:00–9:00 PM for the opening reception of two powerful new exhibitions at the Latino Cultural Center.
No Te Dejes by David Hanes-González and Charreria by Brent Kollock explore two deeply rooted Mexican traditions, boxing and Charrería, through photography, mixed media, installation, and storytelling.
Together, these exhibitions invite us to look beyond sport and tradition to explore identity, faith, heritage, and community.

David Hanes-González

No Te Dejes is an immersive mixed-media exhibition exploring the cultural and spiritual dimensions of Mexican boxing.
Through photography, installation, and sound, David Hanes-González looks beyond the boxing ring to explore boxing as a space of devotion, sacrifice, heritage, and survival. Drawing inspiration from the visual languages of religious altars and boxing gyms, the exhibition honors the faith, fear, discipline, and quiet resilience carried by fighters and their communities.
Originally from Chicago and the son of a Mexican mother and American father, Hanes-González has spent the past five years living and working in Mexico City, reconnecting with the culture that shaped his family and continues to inform his exploration of identity and faith.

🐎 Charreria
Brent Kollock

Charreria explores the artistry, discipline, and cultural significance of one of Mexico's national sports through an intimate photographic study of the communities preserving and shaping this centuries-old equestrian tradition.
Brent Kollock's photographs capture moments of pride, devotion, family, and everyday life among charros and charras, revealing the deep connections between charrería, heritage, identity, and community.
Rather than focusing solely on competition, the exhibition invites audiences to experience charrería as a living cultural practice, one that continues to evolve while remaining deeply connected to tradition.
Born in Houston, Texas, Kollock currently lives and works in Nayarit, Mexico, where his photographic practice focuses on cultural traditions, everyday life, and the communities that preserve Mexico's rich artistic and social heritage.
