Dallas — U.S. Representative Marc Veasey will present $1.2 million in federal funding to help improve Martin Weiss Recreation Center in Oak Cliff. The funding will support interior renovations, an expanded gym and multipurpose spaces, and a new entryway.
This $1.2 million investment will help bring the project to fruition and, together with investments from the 2024 Bond Program, will allow Martin Weiss Recreation Center to finally have a full-sized gym comparable to those at other Dallas recreation centers.
Martin Weiss is one of 42 recreation centers operated by the City of Dallas and has served the Oak Cliff community for generations. In 1928, Dallas businessman Martin Weiss purchased the historic Hord home at 1111 Martindell Avenue for community use and later donated $65,000 toward construction of a new building. The Dallas Park and Recreation Board named the center and park in Weiss’ honor in 1935.
