This fall, the Latino Cultural Center invites you to explore two compelling photography exhibitions that celebrate the traditions, resilience, and cultural heritage of Mexico.
Opening August 29, No Te Dejes by David Hanes-González and Charrería by Brent Kollock offer distinct yet interconnected perspectives on two iconic Mexican traditions. Through powerful imagery and immersive storytelling, both exhibitions examine the ways culture is preserved, embodied, and passed from one generation to the next.

David Hanes-González

No Te Dejes is an immersive mixed-media exhibition that explores the cultural and spiritual dimensions of Mexican boxing. Combining photography, installation, and sound, the exhibition looks beyond the ring to reveal boxing as a space of devotion, sacrifice, heritage, and survival.
Inspired by the visual language of both religious altars and neighborhood boxing gyms, Hanes-González creates an environment that honors the discipline, faith, resilience, and quiet strength carried by fighters and their communities.
Born in Chicago to a Mexican mother and an American father, Hanes-González has spent the past several years living and working in Mexico City, where his artistic practice continues to explore identity, spirituality, and cultural memory.

🐎 Charrería
Brent Kollock

Through striking documentary photography, Charrería examines one of Mexico's most cherished cultural traditions. Brent Kollock's images celebrate the artistry, discipline, and community that define the country's national equestrian sport.
Rather than focusing solely on competition, the exhibition highlights the everyday lives of charros and charras, revealing how family, heritage, and identity continue to sustain this centuries-old tradition.
Born in Houston and now based in Nayarit, Mexico, Kollock has dedicated his photographic career to documenting Mexico's cultural traditions and the communities that keep them alive through generations.
