Dallas Fire-Rescue Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of “Seniors On The Move” Fitness Tour

The “Seniors on the Move” fitness initiative has helped nearly 300 seniors get back on their feet and focus on fitness.

The Dallas Fire-Rescue Department is proud to announce the one-year anniversary of Seniors on the Move, a community-driven fitness initiative that has transformed how local seniors engage with physical health and public safety. Since its pilot launch in April 2025, the program has reached nearly 300 residents, fostering a culture of wellness and connection across the city’s recreation centers. The celebration will take place on April 21, 2026 at 9 a.m. at the Samuel Grand Recreation Center at 6200 E. Grand Ave., Dallas, TX 75223.  Chief Justin Ball, Assistant Chiefs, and the community outreach team, will be joining the workouts, which begin at 10 a.m., for this special occasion. Media are invited to attend.

Long-time community leader Cedric Bailey designed a free, accessible workout tailored specifically for the city’s senior population. Due to its popularity, Seniors On The Move, evolved into a traveling wellness and information resource at recreation centers across Dallas. Beyond sharing health and wellness, the program serves as a vital bridge to safety. Participants receive life-saving fire safety education and gain direct access to vendors providing essential resources and community assistance tailored specifically to the needs of older adults.

“The feedback was so overwhelming that we knew we couldn’t stop at just one location,” said Captain Andrea Shaffner. “We saw a genuine need for a program that combined much-needed access to community resources with physical activity and fun.”

By combining fitness with public safety outreach, Dallas Fire-Rescue continues to prioritize the well-being of its most experienced residents. As Seniors on the Move enters its second year, the department remains committed to bringing energy, music, health, education, and resources to recreation centers throughout Dallas.
