City of Dallas Proclaims April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month

DALLAS - The City of Dallas will officially recognize April 2026 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month during a proclamation ceremony on Monday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m. in the Flag Room at Dallas City Hall. The event will be held in partnership with the Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center and will bring together city leaders, advocates, and community members to raise awareness and stand in support of survivors of sexual violence.

Sexual assault remains a pervasive issue that affects individuals across all demographics. In Texas alone, 2 in 5 women and 1 in 5 men experience sexual assault, including an estimated 260,872 women and 129,474 men in the City of Dallas. Despite its prevalence, sexual assault is often underreported due to stigma, misunderstanding, and barriers to accessing support.

The proclamation underscores the City of Dallas’s commitment to fostering a culture of respect, safety, and equality. It highlights the importance of collaboration among community organizations, businesses, and residents to prevent sexual violence and ensure survivors have access to comprehensive, trauma-informed resources such as medical care, advocacy, counseling, and legal services.

April is observed nationwide as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a time dedicated to educating communities about prevention strategies and amplifying the voices of survivors. The City encourages all residents and visitors to participate in events and initiatives throughout the month that promote awareness, education, and advocacy.

During the April 13 ceremony, the City will formally proclaim April 2026 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Dallas, calling on the community to unite in promoting safety, respect, and accountability.
