DALLAS - Dallas Animal Services (DAS) will host a Kitten Shower on Sunday, March 22, from 12–4 p.m. at 1818 N. Westmoreland Road. The event invites residents to learn how they can support young kittens entering the shelter system this spring.
Kitten season begins each spring and brings a surge of newborn kittens requiring specialized care. Between March and October 2025, DAS cared for more than 2,000 kittens, many too young to remain safely in the shelter. DAS relies on foster caregivers to provide temporary homes where kittens can grow until they are old enough for adoption. All supplies and medical care are provided by the shelter.
“If you’ve considered fostering or adopting a feline friend, now is a great time with our kitten nursery open from spring through the fall,” said Amanda Earl, assistant director of Dallas Animal Services. “The community’s help is critical for the health and wellness of the animals in our care. We’d love to help you find the next addition to your family.”
DAS also urges residents to assess outdoor kittens before intervening. Most are not abandoned—mother cats routinely leave their litters briefly to find food. Unless kittens appear sick, injured, in immediate danger, or have been unattended for several hours, their best chance of survival is to remain with their mother. Residents who discover a mother cat and her kittens may also foster the family with support from DAS.
